More stories are waiting to be published.
Remote Writing Jobs published its first story for my in-house publication back in March, a commissioned piece by Austin Wilson that deserves more eyes than it’s gotten so far.
Since then I’ve been eager to share more work but I’ve also come to understand how much support this next chapter requires to be truly sustainable. It’s an important project to me, one I’ve dreamed of building for years, and not something I want to abandon.
There’s also something I want to name honestly. There are more writers I want to move forward with than I currently have the capacity to commission. Some incredible pieces have to sit in a kind of waiting space simply because the resources haven’t yet caught up to the ambition of what I’m trying to build. That sits against everything this project stands for and it’s part of why deepening support matters so much right now.
I pay writers $1/word and I’m proud to offer a fair rate that reflects the respect I have for the work writers do.
Remote Writing Jobs is funded entirely by paid subscriptions offered at $15/month or $120/year (currently discounted at $60/year sale for a limited time). That support allows me to not only maintain the directory but also commission original work, compensate writers fairly, and sustain RWJ as an independent, paying market.
As it grows, so does its capacity. Every paid subscription expands what RWJ can take on, how many writers I can say yes to, and how often new work can move from pitch to publication.
For those who want to support beyond a standard subscription, there’s also a Founding Writer Ally option at $500+/year. This helps strengthen RWJ’s long-term stability while directly funding the in-house publication.
If you believe in the work I’m doing to champion the writing economy and want to help keep this one-woman outlet going, there are a few ways to support so more stories can be funded:
Become a paid subscriber to support the directory and in-house publication
Gift a subscription to a fellow writer as an investment in their craft and livelihood
Donate annual subscriptions to support writers who’ve submitted hardship requests that offer relief, continuity, and access during unstable seasons
Receive 20% off annual access for groups of five or more, including writing teams, classrooms, collectives, and organizations
Let’s keep building a world that pays writers well.
Building for writers, as a writer,
Melissa Tripp, Founder of RWJ
