Why ask for free writing…?
Over the years I’ve heard countless versions of the same thing.
“Can you just take a quick look at this?”
“It won’t take long.”
“You write, right?”
“Could you do it as a favor?”
So I finally put the response on a t-shirt.
It reflects something many of us know firsthand that writing is often treated like it has no value until someone needs it.
If you’ve ever smiled politely while mentally calculating the mental energy behind a “quick edit,” this one’s for you.
More than anything, I hope it reminds writers that their work is worth paying for.
